According to the information received, the 56-year-old complainant from Nalasopara was busy with his daily routine on February 11 when an unknown woman contacted him via his social media account. Initially, she won his complete trust with her sweet and charming manner of speaking. As the conversation progressed, she claimed to have arrived in India from Russia. Pretending to be stranded at Delhi International Airport, she began to spin a web of deceit.
Crime News: Demanded money citing Customs officials
The woman told the complainant that Customs Department officials at Delhi Airport had detained her due to certain valuables and important documents she was carrying. She claimed she urgently needed money to extricate herself from this Customs predicament. She also promised that if he helped her financially during this crisis, she would honestly return the entire amount as soon as she cleared customs.
Crime News: ₹7.38 Lakhs Swindled
The complainant was completely taken in by the woman’s emotional appeal. Placing blind faith in her words, he transferred a total of ₹7,38,500 online in installments to various bank accounts provided by her. Once the money was deposited, the woman abruptly shut down all her phone lines and social media accounts, cutting off all contact. Upon realizing he had been the victim of a major financial fraud, Sudrik immediately approached the Valiv Police Station. The police have registered a case against the unidentified woman, and further investigation is underway with the assistance of the Cyber Police.
